Upgrading to DotNetNuke 2.1.2
By Richard Edwards @ 8:12 AM :: 1235 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: DotNetNuke, How-To

At this point, I'll assume you've successfully integrated DotNetNuke 2.1.2 into your test setup and everything is working as you expect. Test out any additional 3rd party modules that you've installed to make sure they play nicely with the new DNN code. Now you are ready to deploy to your live server.

Edit your web.config and change the connection strings to the live server parameters and copy the entire directory structure up to your live server. Before you do this, I would suggest you make sure you still have a copy of the old DNN site and a fresh database copy just in case everything explodes.

Once the deployment is complete, you should be able to browse to your site and again DNN will upgrade your database automatically, unless a user has hit it before you and it will already be done.

Some extra's that I had to deal with are as follows:

  • log in as host and make sure you set up your SMTP settings
  • for some reason, the db upgrade didn't move any records into the SystemMessages table. I had to manually transfer them from my test server to the live server. Without them, your registered users will get a confirmation email with no registration code

Good luck, and if you have any problems upgrading, please post a note in the DotNetNuke Forum and I'll try and help.
